Having your engine overheat is a timely and expensive issue in many cases. To prevent this situation, Reliable Chevrolet recommends that you keep up with your annual inspections, along with any routine maintenance that your vehicle may need. If you notice that your thermostat gauge reflects an abnormal increase in engine temperature, call our service department right away to schedule an appointment with one of our technicians. Some of the areas of your vehicle that we will look at include:
Addressing Your Cooling System Concerns
The main culprit of an overheating engine is often a coolant leak. We often see this because of a small hole in your coolant tank, but there may be issues with the various connections attached to your cooling system.
Water Pump Issues
A water pump needs to produce enough pressure to pump coolant through your engine to reduce the temperature. Damage to your water pump can include rust, erosion, holes, cracks, and much more.
The Radiator
A radiator works closely with a system of fans to cool temperatures of coolant in your engine. When these fans or the radiator incurs damage, you'll find that your engine's temperature becomes unstable.
Failure of the Thermostat
A valve is included inside of your thermostat, which will regulate coolant as needed. This valve may become damaged over time, or it can get stuck in one specific position. This would prevent proper coolant flow from taking place, resulting in overheating of your engine.
Worn Out Hoses or Belts
If you bring us a vehicle that's several years old with high mileage, we're going to inspect your vehicle for damage to your hoses and belts. These are areas of a car that we often replace just from the daily use of your car. If certain hoses and belts inside your engine and cooling system aren't working efficiently, this causes overheating.
A small problem with your cooling system can start as something minor that's easy to repair, but we have also seen these problems get out of hand when they're not addressed promptly. Contact Reliable Chevrolet if you've located in the Albuquerque area and notice your engine overheating. We'll bring your vehicle in for an appointment at our Albuquerque location as soon as we can, so we can get you back on the road.
