Chevrolet Awarded $165,000 in Scholarships to 2022 HBCU Marketing and Journalism Interns

Chevrolet recently wrapped up their sixth year of partnering with the National Newspaper Publishers Association to hold “Discover the Unexpected.” This is a 10-week internship and scholarship program that 11 lucky HBCU students were able to partake. Five of the participants focused on marketing, while the other six were within a journalism curriculum. This extremely successful partnership between Chevrolet and the NNPA is important in regard to inspiring upcoming journalists and professionals.

During this program, which awarded $165,000 to the participating marketing and journalism interns, students were able to create engaging content about the Chevrolet Bolt EUV and the rising popularity of electric vehicles. This opportunity was not only educational but also gave interns the opportunity to enact change within their communities.

A number of notable mentors were welcomed into the program this year to inspire participants, including actor, model, entertainer, program ambassador Terrence J, and Justin Shaifer, a television host, producer, and STEM advocate. Providing motivation and guidance, an invaluable amount of knowledge was shared during this program that will hopefully motivate these individuals to share knowledge and information and inspire change.

Each intern received a $10,000 scholarship and a $5,000 stipend. Currently, DTU has awarded more than $600,000 to 49 different HBCU students over the years. You can find out more about the Discover the Unexpected Fellowship program by visiting
